Get involved and join the 400,000 Australians expected to roam their local streets for the fifth annual Garage Sale Trail, on Saturday 24 October.
Last year, just under 3 million pre-loved goods from over 8,000 garages were up for sale. This year, with over 150 local councils onboard, 10,000 garages are expected to open up and put the best of their unwanted up for sale. Registered garage sales can be found on the Garage Sale Trail website where sellers can promote their personal sale, making it easy for shoppers to plan their day and create a personalised treasure trail.
“[Last year] up for sale was everything from a rocket-powered jetpack, a beachside apartment and a couple of grandpas looking for a good home!” said Darryl Nicholas, co-founder of the Garage Sale Trail. “The average seller made over $300 and met 13 new locals on the day.”
Although it'll be a fun way to meet your locals and pick up/ sell pre-loved stuff, the Garage Sale Trail has a serious message behind it. The event promotes socialisation within local communities and family resourcefulness. One garage sale at a time, communities all over Australia will be encouraging the recycling of used goods and placing a value on the world's resources.
Garage Sale Trail registrations are now open and those who register before the 25 September will receive a free promotional pack.
