Dîner en Blanc – dinner in white – celebrates their third edition of the glamorous pop-up picnic that brings foodies and fashionistas together in a secret location for a night of fine wine and dining.
Taking its inspiration from appreciating and enhancing public space, Australia’s first ever Dîner en Blanc was held in Brisbane in 2012 and fast became a favourite for style-setters, with the event promoting friendship, elegance and gallantry. Brisbane Dîner en Blanc organiser Amy Grey says people can't get enough of the chic dining experience and the chance to spend a night in an secret setting.
“The waiting list always fills up incredibly quickly and this year has been no exception, with tickets selling out in a matter of days.“Our guests have a fabulous time and put in so much effort to look stunning and create unforgettable table decorations. We have seen everything from floral arrangements to a canopy of fairy lights.”
The secret location predictably sparks debate among guests, with people trying to guess the whereabouts, but Ms Grey says her lips are sealed.“Revealing the location is definitely a big part of the excitement, so we would never want to spoil the surprise."
Dîner en Blanc sprang to life in 1988 in Paris, when François Pasquier returned from a few years abroad and held a dinner party to reconnect with friends. To deal with the guest list that grew larger by the day, he asked attendees to convene at the Bois de Boulogne dressed in white so they could all find each other. What started with simple word-of-mouth catch-up today has as many as 20,000 white-clad guests meeting annually in Paris’ public spaces, with tens of thousands on a waiting list.
The pop-up dinner now takes places in nearly 40 cities across the globe including New-York, Montreal and Singapore.
