5 Ways To Kill Time On A Plane With The Aston Shuffle

The Aston Shuffle have released new single 'Alpha Love' featuring Alex Mills

“We spend plenty of time on planes and sitting quietly and looking straight ahead isn’t really much fun.

“Here’s some of our favourite ways to pass the time on a flight!”

1. Make music

We’ve found that we can actually be quite productive on a plane. It’s all about the combination of no internet to distract you and having a limited set of tools on your laptop.

Invariably you don’t have all your plugins or samples, so you’re forced to make the most of what you do have. Plus that battery’s only got a few hours of life in it, so better make it count.

2. Podcasts

Flights are honestly perfect for delving into a podcast. I smashed through both seasons of 'Serial' super quickly on flights, but heavy subject matter isn’t always the best choice during a flight. 'Comedy Bang Bang', 'Song Exploder' and 'Pensado’s Place' are other regulars in our rotation.

3. TV

Binging an entire season of something on a long-haul flight is a classic. 'Making A Murderer' and 'The Jinx' were both really easy to finish in their entirety on long, international flights. But again, it’s not always the best vibe to watch something that heavy on a flight.

Nick Kroll’s new Netflix show, 'Big Mouth', was a really great recent plane watch as well. Classic sitcoms like 'Seinfeld' or '30 Rock' are perfect to help you drift off to sleep, both on a plane and on the ground.

4. Books

Travelling with a book was essential when you couldn’t use electronic devices on planes until you were in the air and they switched off the seatbelt sign, and they’re pretty much still essential because phone reception tends to become instantly horrendous when you step onto a plane and start taxiing on the tarmac for some reason. Anyone know why that is, btw?

5. Gaming

This one can be tricky on a plane because battery life is short and seat power can be hard to come by, but Mikah loves to smash an extended FIFA session on a flight. I’m talking hours on end.

The Nintendo Switch has been a transformative experience for killing time on a plane though. When I got mine earlier in the year I think I played Zelda for an entire flight to LA; didn’t sleep a wink and it was *incredible*.
