5 Tips When Flying Thanks To Bonjah

Bonjah

Nine years since booking a one-way ticket from New Zealand to Melbourne, Bonjah have travelled a long way.

They've sold tens of thousands of records independently, sold-out shows around the world, had over 750,000 views of their Triple J Like A Version page, played major festivals, released three, acclaimed records that topped the indie charts, toured with The Who and enjoyed multiple, award nominations.

Last month they released new single, 'Burn', and will celebrate with a show in Melbourne this weekend, before a trip north to south-east Queensland a week later.

With a zillion, frequent-flyer miles accumulated the lads can be trusted when dispensing Yoda-like tips for giant, iron-bird flying.

1. Sign up to your local music body (APRA, Music Vic/ NSW/ WA/ QLD etc.) and enjoy the benefits of free, extra baggage with Virgin. It’s the fookin best!

2. If flying international, check your passport isn’t going to expire within six months. It can be a very costly mistake leaving that to the last minute!

3. Don’t forget your headphones and favourite tunes. These days you can keep your phone/ iPod/ music player turned on for the whole flight; so, may as well make the most of the sitdown time listening to new music.

4. Don’t eat dodgy prawns before a flight, extreme curries or anything else that might give you the shits. Murphy’s Law will give you a window seat.

5. Be nice and polite to the staff, even if they seem to be fucking everything up. It’s probably not their fault and if you’re nice to them, they’ll be nice to you. You might even get a free pie. Mince and cheese.*
