Hailey Calvert combines blues and folk to produce a rich and soothing sound, which she'll showcase as part of City Sounds tomorrow.
Here, Hailey shares her favourite scary movies.
1. The Exorcist
This was the first horror film I ever saw (not counting 'Scream 2' etc at sleepovers). As someone who wasn’t keen on scary movies, I dared myself to watch it and haven’t looked back. Tense, shocking and still powerful today. Linda Blair was horrifying.{youtube}YDGw1MTEe9k{/youtube}
2. The Descent
Very confined spaces and strained relationships, along with hardly any light would be pretty bad at the best of times. Then other things happen. To say any more would ruin it.{youtube}CSYg7Z1KS_I{/youtube}
3. Ju-on: The Grudge
I’m still not sure what the plot for this movie was; all I know is that lady with the long hair and the weird croaking sound still makes my skin crawl.{youtube}xVbWpwkCJRg{/youtube}
4. The Babadook
Creepy hell story of a disturbing book that turns up in a child’s bedroom before its main character, The Babadook, starts tormenting the household. Bonus points for having Essie Davis – who was perfectly cast in the ABC’s 'Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries' – go absolutely brilliantly nuts.{youtube}szaLnKNWC-U{/youtube}
5. Jaws
Not technically a horror film, but I watched it from the hallway when I was waaaay too young and it has definitely affected my day-to-day relationship with sharks.{youtube}U1fu_sA7XhE{/youtube}
Hailey will be performing as part of City Sounds at Eagle Lane, Brisbane 10 June from 11am-1pm.
