Local jazz funkers Kerbside Collection return with their sophomore record ‘Trash Or Treasure’, exploring wilder textures and tones interspersed with more ‘jazzier’ flavours alongside their dusty, gritty, sidewalk grooves.
Featured guest appearances includes members of The Cactus Channel, The Bombay Royale and Brazil; ‘Trash Or Treasure’ is 14 tracks that capture movements from deep funk, raw jazz, rare groove, bossa, soul and even a lo-fi sitar disco finale.
Group member Paprika shares his favourite roadside finds... 'cause one man's trash is another man's treasure.
1. Late '70s Rotel Stereo Analogue Hi-Fi Amplifier
Made in Japan! Killer find when I was living in Melbs [sic]. Perfect condition – plugged it in and worked straight away; has been working since! OJ (bass player from Band Of Frequencies) couldn’t believe how huge and warm the bass sounds!2. Rare Polaroid Zip Land Camera
With hip instruction booklet! Mid '70s.3. Surfboard-Shaped Coffee Table
Couple of coffee cup stains, but in perfect nick!4. '60s Danish Soehnle Kitchen Scales
In orange plastic too! Groovy!5. Crazy '50s Broken European Pushbike
It’s the one used on the album cover artwork. Picked up years ago back in Melbs [sic] for a rainy day, DIY project – still hasn't been done up yet (too busy playing drums and making jazz-funk music).Kerbside Collection release their second album, 'Trash Or Treasure', 3 July at The Milk Factory (Brisbane).
