5 Hipster Trends (In The Most Un-Ironic Way)

This Friday marks the final night of weekly The Seed Project at QPAC’s Melbourne Street Green.

The last couple of months has seen a cavalcade of young, local musicians across a wide range of genres ply their trade at The Seed Project in Brisbane. The final instalment will see the Brodie Graham Band, David Baker and Bree De Rome showcase their wares.

Bree stopped by scenestr to share her five favourite hipster trends.

Granola

I’m a fan of any kind of breakfast food, but granola is my all-time favourite. Oats, seeds, nuts, dried fruit, fresh fruit, yoghurt, spices, honey. What more can a gal want in life, or at least for breakfast?

Birkenstocks

Also known as the world’s most comfortable shoe, what’s not to love about these hideous sandals? They offer a comfortable support for your arches, they keep your feet cool in the summer and today I’m even rocking them with socks (yeah that’s right, socks with sandals, I was homeschooled).

Coffee

I'm an avid coffee drinker, I frequently stumble into my 'local' half asleep to the familiar, smiling faces, and the occasional awkward glance at the barista from behind the coffee machine. Of course, not to mention the aroma of delicious pastries and caffeinated brews, to order my usual “long black, on single origin, please” in the most douché-baggy way possible.

Vinyl

It’s become a known fact that vinyl sounds better digital or even CD, but I also love the ritual of vinyl. Pulling it out of the sleeve, placing it on the turntable, hearing the crackle, flipping to the B side. Oh and they look cool on my shelf.

Glasses

I have a not-so-secret addiction to eyewear — I own 13 pairs of glasses. My addiction isn’t helped by the fact that my day-job is at an optometrist. I love glasses for so many reasons. I own a pair of oversized, black Oliver Peoples sunglasses, I call these my ‘hangover glasses’. I wear these when I feel disgusting. I may be over-tired, sick, missed my morning coffee, wearing no make-up and god-forbid hungover but at least these frames make me look like I’m a functioning member of society once again.

The Seed Project takes place at QPAC’s Melbourne Street Green Friday August 22 from 5pm.
