5 Banh Mi Places In Brisbane With Pat Balfe

Banh Mi

Pat Balfe's Facebook page states he's the village idiot at The Foundry and a trolley boy at Trainspotters.

But don't let those titles fool you. With a resume that also includes 2high Festival and Cherry Red Music credentials, Pat will bring his music industry knowledge to the fore when he speaks at Little Bigsound this month.

Aside from sharing his experiences on the day, Pat will also be dispensing the locations of his favourite Bahn Mi eateries in Brisbane... here are five to keep the hunger pains away.

Kelvin Lee Hot Bread, Kelvin Grove

My first foray into the world of Vietnamese pork rolls. Pretty sure it's all I ate at uni for at least a week, but you can't go wrong for $4.50. Just 50c more for extra pork too, genius.

Little Vietnam, Fortitude Valley

This is where it's at; massive baguettes, lightly toasted. Ludicrous amounts of butter, pate and chilli. Top notch.

Muoi Thuong Fish and Chip, Fortitude Valley

Secluded in a random laneway off Wickham St, the staff here are super polite and friendly and never skimp on the pork. They also make a mean fish and chip, but I digress.

Kim Thanh, West End

The baguettes at this place are awesome. Nice and crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. I've only been to this place once or twice, but they didn't disappoint. Make sure you get a Vietnamese iced coffee too.

Roll Shop, Brisbane CBD

You can get a roast pork, crackling roll at this place. Enough said.

Little Bigsound takes place at the Judith Wright Centre 27 July.
