Finally, police have nabbed a fruity cruiser. But it's not who you might think.

Queensland Police have charged a man with drink driving on Saturday night (12 January) after he was allegedly riding one of the Lime electric scooters in the Fortitude Valley Safe Night Precinct.

It will be alleged that police stopped a 43-year-old Newstead man in James Street after he was riding the scooter on the road, without a helmet and failed to stop at a red light. The man was arrested and later subjected to an alcohol breath test. He returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.174 per cent – 3.5 times the legal limit.

This lime cruiser's fate will be determined by the courts 6 February.

Queensland Police would like to remind 'Lime guys' and 'Lime gals' that drink driving laws still apply. “The QPS will not hesitate to take enforcement action against anyone found to be riding an electronic scooter whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
