If you need to step away from the COVID-19 pandemic, even for a moment, here is some lighthearted relief.
One of 2019's biggest viral sensations, 'Untitled Goose Game' had gamers everywhere hooked playing a bothersome goose intent on generating as much mischief as any goose can.
The video game, developed by the Melbourne-based House House, allows players to control a mischievous goose as it causes (friendly) havoc on an English village, as evidence by its catch-cry: "It's a lovely day in the village and you are a horrible goose."
The game's soundtrack was created by Australian composer Dan Golding in collaboration with House House.
'Untitled Goose Game' was awarded Game Of The Year at the D.I.C.E. Awards (Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences).
The game's score is comprised of algorithmically generated arrangements of a selection of Debussy's Préludes.
In order to produce a dynamic soundtrack system for the game, each Prélude was arranged and recorded in both a high and low-energy version. These versions were then cut up into hundreds of one to two-second-long fragments.
'Untitled Goose Game''s soundtrack algorithm sifts through these performances to select a fragment that best underscores the player's actions in real time.
Also included on the album are selections of original music composed for the game by Golding.
