Fans of ‘Grand Theft Auto’ were recently devastated to learn that ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ would be delayed to 2026 – but a new look at the highly anticipated game has sent the internet into yet another excited frenzy.
The next chapter of one of the most iconic video game franchises of all time is still more than a year away – ‘VI’ was originally set for a release in the late half of 2025, but Rockstar Games made a statement to confirm that the recent silence surrounding the game was all for a reason. . . A delay.
“The interest and excitement surrounding a new ‘Grand Theft Auto’ has been truly humbling for our entire team,” the statement read. “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
Fans were understandably disappointed at this news – some happy to hear the developers were focused on producing something as high-quality as possible – but Rockstar is making up for it, with a brand-new glimpse at what’s to come in May, 2026.
The new trailer shows snippets of ‘GTA VI’’s setting – a Florida-inspired landscape (including the iconic Vice City) – and gives us some brief hints at the plot, and our leading characters Jason and Lucia. While the first look was more focused on the latter, trailer two provides more of an insight into Jason.
We now also have a description of what the game focuses on.
‘Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.’
‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ is released on 26 May, 2026.
