Sydney and Melbourne have ranked #1 and #2 respectively on Reputation Institute's 'World's Most Reputable Cities'.
This is the fifth year RI has released its Top 100 which ranks cities broadly on economy, environment appeal and government. The top 10 is rounded out with Stockholm, Vienna, Vancouver, Barcelona, Edinburgh, Geneva, Copenhagen and Venice.
RI's Managing Partner said the list shows where people and companies most wanted to visit, do business and invest. RI first curates the 100 cities that it deems best known to international business people and travelers. It omits some cities including those which are known to rate poorly, such as those in Syria (due to conflict), reported Forbes.
19,000 people in the G8 countries were surveyed. Before we carried too far away, the second caveat (the voting list is curated is the first) is that most of the people who took the survey hadn't even visited Australia but had a positive impressions of the country, including those formed from postcards. But it wasn't just Australia which scored cheap votes: the Woody Allen film 'Vicky Christina Barcelona' boosted people's perception of the Spain metropolis.
On a more serious note, respondents were savvy enough to be aware that Australia had invested in its infrastructure and education.
The bottom of the list was anchored by Bogota, Nairobi, Moscow, Tehran and Baghdad.
