Should This Advert Have Been Banned?

When people are offended by advertisement showcasing lingerie for a lingerie brand exhibited exclusively in a lingerie store – you really start to question whether society has become a little too sensitive.

Retailer 'Bras N Things' was forced to cull a campaign video due to its 'overly explicit content', after a series of complaints flooded the Australian Advertising Standard Bureau.

The commercial – featuring 2011 'Australian's Next Top Model' contestant Simone Holtznagel flaunting the latest Playboy lingerie – was described as 'amateur porn' and 'vulgar, unsuitable for the young, and simply demeaning for any woman walking past'.

Despite Simone undeniably posing in a series of sexual positions, the scenestr team can't help but wonder how else Playboy products should be marketed?

While perhaps exposing the video to passers-by of all ages, in say, the middle of a shopping centre or on television could be deemed inappropriate, the campaign was played exclusively to shoppers in 'Bras N Things' stores. Not sure what kind of clientele the ASB expects to be wandering around in a women's lingerie shop.

What are your thoughts?

Simone didn't hesitate to bite back at the critics, angrily ranting about the incident on Instagram and sarcastically attacking the 'prudes' who made the complaints.

“Honestly, it's just soooo offensive to show a confident, sexy woman in her lingerie in the window of a (plot twist) – lingerie store! Won't somebody please think of the children?! I mean it's just truly outrageous,” she wrote.

The campaign now joins the likes of a number of banned commercials, some of which may have been a little more righteously canned.

Countless Bud Light (an American alcohol company) advertisements have been rejected to air, although we argue every, single one is side-splitting (and borderline genius). Watch the 'swear jar' video below:

Lynx has frequented the ranks of prohibited campaigns, although again – to us, they don't quite cross that 'overly inappropriate' border. Most are downright hilarious. See for yourself:

The banned Doritos video below is unquestionably clever. Although, we suppose it could break the hearts of young girls who happen to be glancing at the TV:

“Having a girlfriend whose father has a sense of humour: Priceless.” Perhaps Mastercard was breaching the line here. But, offensive or not, you'd have to be made of stone not to laugh:

Yeah, okay Naked Condoms. Too far:
