Bond villain WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange — who's been locked up in Ecuador's London embassy since June, a situation that doesn't look to change anytime soon — plans to run for an Australian Senate seat.
Assange has confirmed, reports The Australian, that plans to set up an Australian WikiLeaks party are "significantly advanced", telling Fairfax Media that "a number of very worthy people admired by the Australian public" have expressed interest in standing for the party.
Mr Assange told Fairfax he has not yet registered to vote in Australia, but that's no biggie — he believes he'll be able to register in either NSW or Victoria as an overseas voter. A "strategic decision" will determine which state he actually runs in.
If it helps your decision, guys, NSW is slightly closer to London.
