Scene Magazine Is Rebranding

Scene Magazine will become scenestr. We're adding three letters.
Founder and Publisher. Based in Brisbane.
Howard started Scene Magazine in 1993. Paul Keating was Prime Minister. Whitney, Janet and Mariah all had Aussie #1s and Mark Zuckerberg was 9. Over 30 years he's overseen the growth of scenestr magazine to become Australia's largest – and only national – street press while forging a digital-first imperative for the title in the mid-naughties. He's judged more battle of the bands than he cares to remember and proud of the myriad media partnerships the company has earned across the music, arts and comedy sectors. He likes Star Trek and a good Oxford Comma – way too much fun at parties.

Brisbane street press Scene Magazine is set to undergo its most radical change in 21 years: a change of name and a change of frequency.

From 9th July the publication's name will be changed to scenestr — in line with the company's website; and it will be published monthly instead of weekly.

scenestr mock webThe changes are about continuing to meet the challenges of new media. We'll increase our energies towards digital on a daily basis while still offering the iconic print publication that has served the youth and not-so-youthful entertainment seekers of South East Queensland every week since 1993.

The new format will offer increased number of pages and copies printed — more for the reader and more for the advertiser. Our pick-up rate has always been exceptional on account of our take-home size, diverse editorial, full colour, full gloss format; but now we can all-but guarantee 100 percent.

But in 2014, we also have some long-standing clients who are now seeking a digital-only solution — this focussing and remixing of our offering is right for us now.

We have always been a progressive street press publisher, being the first in our territory to run with a gloss cover (October 2002), the first in the country to downsize from tabloid (in 2004), the first in the country to offer a flipbook edition (April 2008) and I'm quite certain that we're leading the way again with the move to monthly.

So while next week's edition of Scene Magazine marks the end of an era of sorts, it also reaffirms this company's strength as a progressive and dynamic one capable of meeting the changing demands of consumers and advertisers.

We will see you on the streets!
