A Russia Today anchor has exhibited balls of steel by quitting live on air to protest the actions of Vladimir Putin.
Liz Wahl, an anchor for the network's Washington DC bureau, said she "cannot be part of a station funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the actions of Putin" because her grandparents originally came to the US to escape Soviet oppression.
"I'm proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth. And that is why after this newscast I'm resigning."
Before her dramatic on-air resignation, Wahl tweeted: "Just spoke to grandparents who came to US as refugees escaping Soviets during Hungarian revolution. Amazing to hear amid new Cold War fears."
Wahl is the second Russia Today US host to speak out against Putin, which, if nothing else, should make the station must-watch viewing for the next few months. Yesterday, Abby Martin criticised Russia's actions in Ukraine.
"Before I wrap up the show I wanted to say something from my heart about the ongoing military occupation of Ukraine and Russia's political occupation of command," Martin said. "Just because I work here, for RT, doesn't mean I don't have editorial independence. And I can't stress enough how strongly I am against any military intervention in sovereign nations' affairs."

Yep. Vladimir Putin — a guy who loves a dissenting opinion and a healthy debate — will be totally cool with this.
