RIP Rik (1958-2014)
“There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing. They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him. And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish bastard.” Ade Edmondson
The infamous and irrepressible Richard Michael 'Rik' Mayall has just passed away. The English comedian, writer and actor was known for his inimitable post-punk style of acting and was regarded as a pioneer of alternative comedy. His comedy partnership with Adrian 'Ade' Edmondson was legendary and his approach to sitcom inspired a generation of comedy stars. He appeared in 'The Young Ones', 'Blackadder', 'The New Statesman' and films 'Drop Dead Fred' and 'Guest House Paradiso'.
And this ... how fitting. Rik's one and only Tweet:
"Opening my very own Twitter to stop another bastard from doing it. So fuck off & don't expect to hear from me any time soon. Love Rik x"— Rik Mayall (@rikmayall) June 9, 2014
RIP Rik, the world will miss your fireball creativity and off-the-wall laughs.
