An Irishman who became stuck in the roof of Gold Coast's Sin City while trying to sneak in has been fined.

The ABC reported fire officers rescued Hugh McMahon after he became wedged in the roof cavity.

McMahon had been thrown out of the club twice: security guards first escorted him out after finding him sleeping on a couch; then McMahon managed to re-enter the club and security guards found him on the dance floor. He was then thrown out a second time.

McMahon was fined $900 and ordered to pay $1,700 in restitution for damage to the club's roof and a non-essential call out of the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service. McMahon is in Australia on a one-year visa and is living and working in Sydney.
