A Rebecca Black-inspired chalkboard flogging Doughnuts coz 'it's Friday' has walked off with the inaugural 'Chalkboards Of Australia' Australia's Best Chalkboard gong – as judged by the scenestr staff judges.
The winning venue (which displayed the board) is Ground Up Espresso in Toowoomba. The winning Instagrammer (who submitted the picture) is James Seibel.
The popular choice winner, voted by scenestr online and print readers, is a Jimmy Barnes 'You got muffin I want' board from Atlas Espresso in Hobart. Both winning venues will receive a scenestr gong in recognition that they have indeed Australia's Best Chalkboard.
The Instagrammers who submitted the winning boards have a choice of tickets to either comedian Russell Brand or AC/DC, both of whom are touring this year. The national competition received entries from around Australia which were distilled to 20 finalists.
The judges' winner (Doughnuts) inched ahead of the honourably-mentioned Beastie Boys 'Right To Party' on the strength of its orginality in text and the effort in the artwork. One of the judges, scenestr publisher Howard Duggan, said while "non-original works were definitely encouraged – it's even specifically permitted in the rules – entries that are original, on point and have cut-through will always have an advantage. That's not to say that next year, the Beastie's couldn't win, so don't try to read too much into the judges' minds. That's just how we read it this year.

"We're really pleased that we have a true national competition on our hands – one that has touchpoints with pop culture, art, wordsmithing, café culture and who-knows-what. We're definitely looking forward to seeing what next year's 'Chalkboards Of Australia' serves up."
And on that note, because the internet, here's the winner's inspiration herself:
