Nova’s Ash, Kip & Luttsy and Channel Nine's Andrew 'Lofty' Lofthouse will run the New York Marathon to raise awareness and much needed funds for Youngcare.
Youngcare – very close to the scenestr team's hearts – is the vital Brisbane-based charity committed to helping young Australians with high-care needs move out of aged care facilities and live a life of choice, independence and dignity.
It's been a busy four weeks for the community group – earlier this month, Bernard Fanning headlined a packed City Hall for the charity's 10th anniversary benefit concert.

The Nova Brisbane team will run with Tim Martin, who knows firsthand how important the work of Youngcare is. He was just 23, and in his last year at university, when he suffered a severe brain injury that left him unable to walk, talk or communicate. Tim now resides in a purpose-built, high-care residential apartment, thanks to Youngcare, which gives him the freedom to live life as he chooses.
Ricky Dumigan from Execforce, who has been ensuring the Nova team are marathon-ready, will join the on-air personalities in New York where they will all share the role of 'pusher' for Tim’s wheelchair.
Ash, Kip & Luttsy will be broadcasting their radio show live from New York throughout the week following the marathon. Nova listeners in Queensland will hear the team live in New York from Monday 2 November through to Friday 6 November, 2015 from 6am-9am (AEST).
Due to the time difference, Nova’s Ash, Kip & Luttsy will find themselves having to work immediately after completing the New York Marathon which is giving Nova 106.9 breakfast producer, Adam Waldock, some interesting challenges.
“Working through the logistics of broadcasting the breakfast show live from New York to Australia, especially on the first day when our three hosts will have literally just completed one of the world’s greatest marathons, has certainly been a challenge,” Waldock said.
“But our logistical challenges are nothing like the challenges that Youngcare face in their quest to get youth with high care needs out of aged care facilities in Australia.”
Nova 106.9 General Manager and Program Director Jay Walkerden said it has been a huge job but the team were thrilled to be able to facilitate such an incredible project.
“Nova 106.9 couldn’t be prouder to have the opportunity to join forces with Channel 9 to raise awareness about this incredible organisation and we would like to thank our partner Suncorp Insurance for helping to make it possible," Walkerden said. Suncorp Insurance has been supporting Youngcare since 2007. This support has included direct funding, leading fundraising efforts and encouraging Suncorp staff to get involved with Youngcare.
