MTV Australia will cease all regularly scheduled programming tomorrow (24 August) to encourage Australians to #enrolforequality.
MTV believes that every Australian should be entitled to equality. Between 6am-6pm MTV, MTV Music, MTV Classic and MTV Dance channels across Foxtel and Fetch will shut down normal broadcast and instead play a special message encouraging people to enrol.
MTV’s shut down also encourages Australians to ensure their existing voting details are correctly listed with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) before the deadline for The Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey.
The MTV website will also display an LGBTQ+ editorial takeover and host links for viewers to enrol.
Simon Bates, Head of MTV Asia Pacific says, “As a leading youth entertainment brand that supports inclusiveness and equal rights for all Australians, MTV wants to encourage young Australians to get out and do their part in ensuring their voices are heard in the Australian Marriage Law postal vote.”
Tomorrow is the last chance to make a difference. Enrolment closes midnight (local time) Thursday, 24 August.
