An Adelaide commercial radio duo are responsible for the abrupt end to an interview with Aussie country star Keith Urban.

Urban was on the line with Hayley Pearson and Max Burford in Adelaide, as part of promotion for his upcoming ‘High And Alive’ tour, kicking off next month. He seemed to be in high spirits, on a Zoom call chatting to the presenters, until a question asked by Burford cut the chat short.

The question was introduced through a ‘Wall Of Truth’ segment, where the hosts, in Pearson’s words, “have to ask a very tricky question” of their guest. Pearson even admitted she gets “really uncomfortable” asking the questions. Sounds like a great work environment.

“What does Keith Urban think,” Burford began, “when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men, like Zac Efron, having these beautiful love scenes. . .”

What followed was dead silence and a disconnected Zoom call.

“I think his team hung up on us because they didn’t want us to ask that question,” a producer said.

The hang up begs more questions – why did these hosts ‘have to’ ask Keith this? And why, if Pearson had a feeling that would happen, did they go ahead with it?

In an era where commercial radio hosts are being singled out and called out more and more for morally foggy commentary and fodder, where is the line – and why does it continue to be crossed? Sure, Keith Urban is a celebrity – and the title comes with being subjected to endless press and interviews. . . But, in the midst of tour promotion, was this a relevant and productive thing to ask him?
