Across two massive weekends this November, there’ll be sales across the country as part of Garage Sale Trail – the festival of pre-loved stuff.
As of now, interested parties can register, and get ready to sell smarter, shop pre-loved, and join a global movement which is good for the planet (and your wallet!).
In 2024 alone, 297,792 Australians sold or shopped at more than 13,000 garage sales nationwide. . . Giving 755,261 items new life and saving them from landfill.
And this year, some music-loved Australians join the fun as ambassadors, including ARIA Award-winning musician Montaigne (who repped Australia in ‘Eurovision’ in 2021), design icon Beci Orpin, ‘Gardening Australia’’s Costa Georgiadis, and dirtgirl from dirtgirlworld, who are cooking up something special with Kids Garage Sales.
If you’re feeling the urge to purge but simply have no idea where to make a start, there’s the Great Aussie Clear out – a 31-day spring decluttering challenge, designed to get you sale-ready, one step at a time. Each day, there’s a simple task. . . Like clearing the coffee table, taming the Tupperware, picking out five things you’ve not worn in a year. You’ll turn a mountain of clutter, into neat, sellable molehills!
No garage? No worries. Grow It Local, Australian Men’s Shed Association, Australian Neighbourhood Houses & Centres Association and more will make it easy for everyone to get involved, and if you’re keen to go even bigger, you can rally your neighbours for a street-wide sale, or ask your local library, community garden, radio station or pub to host a group sale.

Plus, Kids Garage Sales is a new initiative designed to teach little ones the joy of passing things on and giving them a second life.
“In the Naturehood, a garage sale isn’t just about selling stuff. . . It’s about sharing stories, passing on treasures, and making space for something new to grow. Kids leading the way? That’s the kind of future I want to live in,” dirtgirl says.
“I love a good garage sale, but when it’s powered by kids, it’s a gnomication of good ideas, resourcefulness and action. Reuse, rethink, rehome, it’s a recipe for growing joy,” Costa Georgiadis adds.
It’s never been more important or empowering to reuse – with climate change intensifying and Australia’s first National Climate Risk Assessment freshly released. So clear out your cupboards, rally your mates, and get involved.
Registrations are open now.
Garage Sale Trail takes place on 8-9 November and 15-16 November around the country.
