Another Super Bowl means another hit-packed half-time show – this year Dr Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J Blige and 50 Cent took to the stage in LA.
The set was filled with hits like ‘Lose Yourself’, ‘California Love’, ‘Family Affair’, ‘In Da Club’ and ‘Alright’.
At the end of Eminem’s time on stage, he was seen taking a knee despite reports of objections to do so from the NFL. In 2016, American activist and former quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem at the start of NFL games to protest police brutality and racial inequality in the US.
Eminem has shown his support for Colin’s act in his own music, in his songs ‘These Demons’ (“No cap, still riding with Colin”) and ‘Black Magic’ (“But I ain’t gonna stand for that sh.t, like Kaep for the national anthem”).
A report from Puck’s Eriq Gardner said the NFL prohibited Eminem from doing this behind-the-scenes – but it seems the rapper stuck to his original plan and defied the NFL.
Taking the knee has been adopted at Black Lives Matter protests around the world.
