Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

For a nominal fee, children and adults in Brisbane can step back in time to play as many of their favourite retro arcade games in the country’s only free-play wonderland, 1UP Arcade.

After launching at the weekend (16 December), founder and owner of 1UP Arcade Stephen Holmes says he is looking forward to transporting nostalgic customers back to their childhoods as well as introducing today’s youngsters to arcade classics.

"It’s a real throwback to a time when you could head to your local arcade, with all your spare change, to spend the day with your friends," Stephen says.

"A free-play retro arcade is something that has never been done before in Australia, so we’re excited to be paving the way. They have proven popular in the US and I think it'll do well here in Brisbane."

1UP Arcade features more than 90 classic arcade games on site. "We are really appealing to both children and adults who have an interest in gaming from the ’80s and ’90s era as well as pinball fans and anyone who misses the arcades of yesteryear.

"We have an on-site workshop where our technician can carry out repairs on any game straight away as well."

1UP Arcade will be open 2-10pm Wednesdays to Sundays and is located at 230 Lytton Road, Morningside (Brisbane).
