Last week, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was so engrossed in his online gaming he failed to see or hear that his girlfriend (who was locked out of their apartment) had been trying to contact him.
The emerging Formula One star, who won his first F1 race last year at the Belgian Grand Prix (the same track Michael Schumacher won his first F1 race) has been racing virtually all over the world during lockdown. But it seems he was close to being locked out of his girlfriend's heart. Together only a few months, Charles' girlfriend Charlotte Sine had spent close to 30 minutes trying to contact him the traditional ways.
Then she had a lightbulb moment; knowing he was probably playing video games on his high-spec motorsport set-up, Charlotte subscribed to Charles' Twitch account (at $9 for a monthly subscription). Once subscribed, she sent him a message asking to unlock the front door.
"My girlfriend had to buy a subscription to my Twitch to be able to ask me in the channel chat if I could open her the front door," a bemused but with a still racing heart Charles said.
"She waited 25 minutes downstairs as I couldn't hear my phone, I had the headphones and was very focused on my rally race."
But judging by a recent Insta post, all is well in Charles and Charlotte's world once more.
