Fresh from showcasing at Sydney SXSW last week, Central Coast alternative emo band Deadshowws' newest release is the single 'Wallflower'.
It's a break-up song that delves into the feelings associated with giving more of yourself to the other person than you'd imagined, and the fallout of not being able to move forward as those emotions float around in your head unprocessed.
Distorted shoegaze melded to an alt-rock soundscape, the song bubbles and festers with a fierceness that builds in its harshness, the aggression cooled by loud-quiet-loud bursts of fuzzy, angular guitars and bruised drumming that seeps figurative blood with every whack of the drumheads.
Add the new wave/ post-punk munted-droning vocals that connect all the emotions and 'Wallflower' is an epic track to thrash about to in the pit, or sit back and shoulder-head-bang in your own dance circle.
"'Wallflower' is a song about the shadows left when someone walks away," Connor Dean, Deadshowws composer, lead vocals and guitarist says.
'Wallflower' is Deadshowws' third single release of of 2025, following 'I Should' and 'Summer Rust', the band also supporting the likes of Trophy Eyes, Basement and Touche Amore this year.
Ahead of a trio of shows the next month or so, here the band throw some shade (or is it love?!) at band member Taj, who has the unique ability to fall asleep in some pretty random places.
Mid Main Support
In Wollongong on the Two Tone, She Said tour we found Taj outside in the band balcony area, slumped in his chair asleep, 25 minutes before we went on. Tried to wake him gently; guy was out like a light!
Mid Text
Years ago in Canberra, after one of the most undersold shows we've ever played, everyone was tired but none as tired as Taj. After I got ready to hit the hay, I found Taj asleep on the lounge, still holding his phone (above his face mind you), with Snapchat open and a message typed out to his girlfriend saying 'goodnight' and that he loves her. The message was never sent.
Sleeping Comfy On A Byron Bay Bench
Like a boujee homeless man.
Eyes Open
Our manager Alex claims to have seen him asleep in the lobby of a hostel we were staying at in Melbourne, with his eyes open. He claims it to be some of the freakiest sh.t he's ever seen. I believe him!
Noodle Crash
The noodles remained untouched until he woke, where in his tired stupor he began eating the very thing he spent the last of his energy preparing.
