5 Tips For Flying Economy

Divers are an indie rock band from Melbourne.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Melbourne indie rockers Divers recently released their third EP, 'Economy Class' – a collection of songs filled with hazy guitars and reverb-laced vocals.

The EP is also their first official release via Domestic La La (Dear Seattle, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers), after they were handpicked by label head (and Violent Soho guitarist) James Tidswell to join the roster.

Recorded out of their home studio in Melbourne, Divers paired with ARIA Award-winning producer Anton Hagop (Powderfinger, Birds Of Tokyo, Missy Higgins) to mix the EP, with mastering by George Georgiadis (Tyne-James Organ, Last Dinosaurs).

The six-track release features the singles 'Security' and 'That's Time Flying', the band releasing music videos for both tracks.

"We tried a 'less thinking, more doing' approach with this clip," shares the band discussing the creative direction of the 'That's Time Flying' clip.

"We had a really small window of time before everyone went away overseas on holiday, so on a Tuesday night after work we headed to Spotlight with a $100 budget. We ended up buying four orange jumpsuits, four buckets and some tin foil. Took it all back to HQ, knocked up a green screen in the band room and sent it to the moon."

Ahead of the band's upcoming EP tour that takes in Sydney, Wollongong, Melbourne and Adelaide ("We've got a sneaky little tour to celebrate 'Economy class' so if you're enjoying it today, c'mon then, grab a ticket. Love you."), here the band share their tips for flying economy.

"We've only flown first class so this doesn't relate to us, but if we had flown economy before we'd have the following tips." Cheeky buggers!

Breakfast

Allow yourself enough time for a pre-flight Maccas breakfast because it's the only time a year we're allowed to have it without feeling the eternal guilt bestowed upon us from father Ronald.

Parking

If you want to avoid paying for long-term parking make sure your mates are driving, except if his name is Tom Evans because his tyre will go flat en route to Tullamarine Airport without fail; it's happened five times now.

If friends are unavailable, pre-book your taxis to the airport, especially in Brisbane, because they take ages and sometimes they take too long and then you get even Tom worried you'll miss your flight, and trust me when I say Tom is never worried, so yeah we were properly soiling ourselves nearly.

Entertainment

When starting a band, ensure at least one member owns (at least two) forms of portable gaming devices – instruments or talent isn't a prerequisite. Also be sure to confiscate the headphones from Jake Green, so that he actually talks to you and maybe pretends to be excited to be on tour for even five minutes.

Release The Stress

If you suffer from flight anxiety, just remember that it's all completely out of your hands, so there's really no point stressing. If it really is your time to perish, you may as well enjoy your final moments ;) have a few more drinks, so what.

See what that person next to you is up to later on. Could lead to something fun I don't know. Are you still reading this article? It's a bunch of bullocks really. Go for a walk or something :) call your mum and dad maybe.

Excess Content

Download 8 albums, 10 movies, 5 complete tv series, for a 90-minute flight and don't consume any of it.
