Respected solo writer and clever lyricist, nine times Golden Guitar finalist, Harmony James current album ‘Cautionary Tales’ showcases her foray into writing collaborations, including the track 'Skinny Flat White' with Brooke McClymont.
Ahead of her showcasing at Bigsound, Harmony shares five activities she likes to partake in, in and around South East Queensland.
1. Get fit
Kayak in the dirty Brisbane River for fun and bragging rights with the bull sharks. A personal favourite of mine is to launch around Kangaroo Point and play dodge the ferry.2. Get high
Climb any number of mountains from the Scenic Rim, to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, or the Gold Coast Hinterland. If you can manage the distance, go to Mount Barney to challenge your quads and get some serious elevation and views.3. Get entertained
Seek out a house concert (gig) someplace. They are so much fun for everyone involved. You might need to stretch your underground networks to seek one out, but they are worth doing.
4. Get all the feels
Volunteer for one of any number of not-for profits or causes. I have so much fun doing this. A particular favourite of mine is the Leukaemia Foundation, or ParkRun, or donating blood through Red Cross, or getting wisdom and social engagement with QCWA.5. Get smart
We have so many opportunities to do this no matter what our interests are. Dance lessons, leading universities, museums, craft fairs, conferences; all manner of things go on around us every week.Harmony James plays The Press Club 8 September.
