With the first half of 2017 spent supporting heavyweights Atmosphere and Brother Ali as well as joining Seth Sentry on his 'Play It Safe' tour, Marksman Lloyd has released his newest EP, 'Portals'.
Marksman scored the 2016 WAM Award for best hip hop song with ‘Pause’; his latest single is 'NOMO', a straight-out jam featuring production from rising star Jia Lih.
With a couple of WA shows planned in September, Marksman shares his love of Rodriguez picking his favourite tracks from the legendary bluesman.

1. 'Sugarman'.
First song I heard of his. I was ten-years old. My dad played me his cassette tape. This song changed my life and made me wanna write. My boy Aaron Malone has reinterpreted it and sings his own version of it on 'Sugarman' from my EP.2. 'Cause'.
“I lost my job two weeks before Christmas.” He got dropped from his label two weeks before Christmas. Almost prophetic because it was after the fact. Life imitating art.3. 'I Wonder'.
My dad showed me Rodriguez when I was in primary school. Said he was the undiscovered Bob Dylan. Before the hype I got to see him live in 2015 with my dad. It was pouring with rain and we sat there in awe. Sometimes everything is too perfect for coincidence.{youtube}Xw-BpTZAFRY{/youtube}
4. 'Street Boy'.
Tears. Listen to this if you want to learn how to write a song. Mannn.5. 'Crucify Your Mind'.
Just stop what you're doing and go listen to this song. “Giving substance to shadows, giving substance evermore.” One of the greatest songwriters we've ever had. This is for everyone who was down and mesmerised before the doco propelled him into the spotlight he deserved.The 'Portals' EP is available now.
