With 11 tracks of raw, vulnerable, and honest emotion, Charlie Lane recently released her debut album, 'I'm Okay Now But I Wasn't', and with it, a piece of her soul.
As a queer and disabled artist, Charlie Lane has a unique perspective on the world that she's proud to share, and this perspective has fostered a base of passionate fans. With her fusion of devastating lyrics and energetic music, she's carved out her niche in the Melbourne music scene. This album is a beautiful onslaught of undiluted emotion.
A regular public transport user, here Charlie campaigns the positive aspects of ditching the car for a bus, train or tram.
"I was walking to the tram from work listening to music on a beautiful Melbourne sunny day and thought to myself, 'I think the majority of people see public transport as a choice', but for those of us with a disability, and who don't have the freedom to drive, public transport is our only option.
"I also thought, 'my ass is really sore from sitting at work' so I'm glad I got the exercise. I've never driven, so it may be a little bias but these are just a few reasons I like public transport and why I think you should ditch the car."
People Watch
I love people watching on public transport. People who are just doing their thing. I find people interesting and sometimes it gives me inspiration to write.Get Your Steps In
On the side, I work in a office job. If you're sitting down all day at least walking to the tram, train or bus you're getting some physical exercise in. My exercise physio would be pleased with this answer.Common Sense
If you have a disability like mine, it's literally the only way so don't drive. I mean, when the neurologist tells you don't do it then you probably shouldn't. So I didn't. Although it does make getting to gigs and touring harder, there's always a way around it.Reduce emissions
I heard that a full train can take more than 600 cars off the road. So pretty much, with the world in the state that it is in, no matter if you can drive or not we should collectively start to drive less.Multi-Task
Listen to heaps of music, do work or stare into oblivion. You don't have to concentrate. Maybe be vigilant, yes, but unlike driving, you can sit back, relax and not get beeped by the annoyed tradie who's late for work behind you.
