5 Out Of The Way Swim Spots To Visit In Australia

Originally forming to make music to get into a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack, Austrian indie-rock duo Cari Cari have released a steady steam of music the last decade.

The pairing of Stephanie Widmer and Alexander Köck are habitual wanderers, world builders, sonic adventurers, and relentless dreamers – all of these experiences they weave into their cinematic sonic tapestries.

Their most recent release is 'One More Trip Around The Sun'. Their third studio recording, that dropped earlier this year, is a deep dive into love, childhood, the meaning of home, and the unstoppable march of time.

"It's a journey through our own universe, a reflection of the world as it feels in this moment," Widmer says. Lush, immersive, and fiercely independent, the record is a testament to staying true to one's vision, resisting fleeting trends, and embracing authenticity.

Cari Cari has recently followed up with another album single 'This Song Is About You'. "It was the last song we finished – the missing piece that pulled everything together," the pair shares.

"We felt the record still needed a moment that captured the special connection we have. No fancy production, no layering – just guitar, drums and vocals. The way we started.

"Once we found the feeling, the lyrics wrote themselves. It's a quiet thank you for all the love we've felt over the years – from each other, from our friends and family, and from everyone who's been listening. Whether you're in love, out of love, or just dreaming about it – this one's for you."

Regular travellers to Australia, here Cari Cari list their favourite bush swimming holes to find a little respite from the pressures of our modern world.

1: Florence Falls, NT

Locals described it to us as The Nudie Hole – a double waterfall plunging into a perfect, croc-free swimming hole surrounded by a beautiful monsoon forest – it was worth the hike every time, but no nudies were seen.

2: Noosa Fairy Pools, QLD

On a calm day, these rock pools are like a private ocean spa – crystal clear, tucked away, and absolutely magic. If you're after a natural massage, visit on a breezier day for some whirlpool action.

3: Bitter Springs, NT

Beautiful, natural thermal springs with a gentle flow that lets you float from one end to the other. Warm water, and if you're lucky enough to go early, the bird song is unreal.

4: Mission Beach, QLD

This dreamy, laid-back coastal town is home to a stunning beach. Think 14 kilometres of ridiculously white sand, cheesy palm trees straight out of a '90s postcard. We even found a fresh coconut, cracked it open, and enjoyed it right there on the beach.

5: Wattamolla Beach, NSW

You can literally jump off a waterfall into the water here. Add a dreamy lagoon, soft sand, and epic views – honestly, what more do you want? Case closed.
