5 Karaoke Costumes To Impress Your Friends With The Harpoons

The Harpoons
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.
With trips to the UK and US in the past two months, Melbourne soul-R&B popsters The Harpoons are back in Oz with a new single.

'Ready For Your Love' is a song inspired by the Australian bush, with all proceeds from the sale of the single to be donated to the Asylum Seeker Research Centre.

The band also enjoy playing dress-ups when they indulge in the joys of karaoke. Bless. Here they shares five costumes sure to impress even Napoleon Dynamite.

1. Skeleton

Skeletons are scary. The skeleton costume works particularly well when coordinated with a black-light and disco music. If the lights are dark enough, your friends will see right between all of your ribs. We recommend performing Chaka Khan's ‘Fate' as a skeleton.

2. Frog

The Japanese tree frog is incredibly cute, and makes for a great costume choice. Dressed in the Japanese Tree Frog suit, your rendition of Sade's 'Never As Good As The First Time' will blow your friends away.

3. Carrot

Carrots are equally popular in Japan as they are everywhere else in the world. Meaning they are incredibly popular, so you should definitely consider dressing as a carrot at your next community, karaoke event. Try singing Adam Lambert’s 'Ghost Town' as a carrot.

4. Domo

Domo is a brown thing with a big mouth and stumpy arms and legs. We saw it everywhere in Tokyo, but we have no idea what it is. Dressed as Domo, you will feel invincible within your cuddly exterior. Try singing Beyonce’s 'Drunk In Love' as Domo. You will be absolutely blown away.

5. Daikon

Daikon is a large, white radish. In Japanese, Daikon literally means 'big root'. We think this is the best all-round costume for karaoke. Sing anything; from Aerosmith’s 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing', to Dido's 'White Flag' wearing your radish garment, and even if your friends have fallen asleep, they will still hear you.
