5 Instagram Accounts To Time Waste With Dustin Tebbutt

Dustin Tebbutt
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

With a new album and national tour waiting in the wings, Dustin Tebbutt has a lot to look forward to. If he could just get off his Instagram feed.

“I like a good time waste as much as anyone (it's an essential part of being creative) and when you’re addicted to social media, you might as well look at something more interesting than random selfies.”

Here are Dustin's top 5 favourite Instagram accounts.

1. @kookslams

Awesome collection of wipeouts ranging from harmless stupidity featuring clueless people, right up to some seriously heavy wreckers. Only two rules apply here: 1. You will cringe. 2. The ocean is master.

2. @boringlandscapes

Perfectly named, this account is a journal of mundane, somewhat ugly and completely un-noteworthy landscapes. Within the context of each other though, side by side, they take on another level of beauty and meaning. I also like the defiance of this page being on Instagram and proud not to be portraying the 'ideal'.

The exact opposite of the often highly produced, posed and sponsored stuff we see filling our feeds more and more these days. It's a lesson in subtlety perhaps, or just a joke on us, but I do like flicking though these places, wondering what has happened in the seemingly grim spaces. It's all relative I guess.

3. @pnwonderland

Heaps of my favourite stuff captured exquisitely here, including mountains, rivers, lakes, forests and did I say mountains? It's a curated site with multiple contributors, so is also a good way to find cool photographers and other accounts.

4. @theroyaldivision

A photography collective, full of stunning landscapes and portraits, and the occasional mountain. Some of the shots are of the more edited variety, but on the whole the feed has a really organic and epic feel to it.

5. @thelmaplum

Thelma Plum is a wonderful person. In real life, her openness, honesty and energy are true virtues, and these all translate to her feed which is always entertaining in a really human way. She's not afraid to call things like she sees them, has an awesome sense of humour, and has a way of inspiring people though the way she sees the world.

Went to the #blacklivesmatter protest in Sydney today with my bae. Where were ya'll????? Loooook, if you are one of those gals that go to Bali and get cornrows and braids, then you should have been at this rally today. If you are someone who makes rap music here in Aus, you should have been at the rally today. If you are someone who dances to hip hop music, you should have been at the rally today. If your favourite footy player is Aboriginal then you should have been at this rally today. If you are gaining personally or financially from a black person in your work or life, you should have been there today. If you posted a blm hashtag to your Facebook then you should have been there today. Start loving black people as much as you love black culture because they are the same. No excuses anymore guyz. If you are not actively calling out the injustices towards Aboriginal people and black people then you are the problem. Stop Aboriginal deaths in custody. Stop white washed media coverage of #blacklivesmatter. Stop booing Adam Goodes. Also fire Eddie McGuire. Okay I'm out now. Today sucks
