5 Favourite Things With Kristy Coote

Kristy Coote
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

On Friday (20 May), Kristy Coote will release her debut album, 'Favourite Thing'.

The NSW musician travelled to Nashville, US to write and record the album. “Recording in Nashville was absolutely brilliant!” Kristy exclaims.

“Mike Flanders, my awesome Australian producer, is based there, and has been there for some years. I also co-wrote with a bunch of other Aussies including: 'Pretending' with Clive Young (pop star from '80s-'90s), 'In My Heart' with Sarah Humpreys (singer/ songwriter). So the album really is a collective Australian effort,” Kristy says.

Ahead of the album's release, Kristy shares some of her favourite things.

1. A spare seat

Don't get me wrong, I like to talk to people wherever I go but on a plane, give me that spare seat next to me; I then don't have a reason to talk to anyone. I can put my headphones on and away we go on a 15-hour flight. Oh, but then there's the problem of that kid banging the back of my seat, which can easily be fixed ;)

2. Etiquette is key

Ok so this happened just the other day. If you buy a platter for your three friends at a party held at a pub and you have strays around staring at the food. Yes, please have some but don't gorge all of it and then piss off. What's that about? Is this a French thing? 'Cause yes, she was French. Pardon, where are your manners lady?

3. Friends & family

What would we do without these people in our life? Humans need humans. But in some cases there's not enough luv. Go give someone a hug if they look sad. How good does it feel do something kind for someone else. Come on let me give you a hug! Ok I said just a hug.

4. Wings of Kilimanjaro

My friend's charity is helping to raise funds for education and clean water in Tanzania. I will be climbing this mountain over seven days. Anything for the kids Where's my personal trainer? Argghh! Now this will be my biggest accomplishment to date besides having my new 'Favourite Thing' album released this month!

5. Laughter

How good is it to be surrounded by people that give you a good belly laugh with a few tears streaming down your face; maybe even a little bit of wee coming out? Now that's up there with the best. Love it.

'Favourite Thing' is released 20 May.
