Brisbane (via Bundaberg) musician Julia R. Anderson has been weaving lo-fi instrumental textures through traditional pop, rock songs since late 2011.
Ahead of a solo performance at Sunlit Sounds festival later this month, Julia shares her favourite dynamic duos of all time.
1. Trixie & Katya
Since meeting on 'RuPaul’s Drag Race', these two drag queens have produced some amazingly hilarious footage together.Katya is an anxious and incredibly smart ex-meth addict and recovering alcoholic, while Trixie is a disadvantaged country-boy turned witty and charming life-size Barbie doll.
Watching this duo’s comical and fabulous outlook on life gives me my life.
2. Patti Smith & Robert Mapplethorpe
Together, this eminent pair experienced the illustrious and quite dangerous landscape of New York at one of music and art's most iconic moments in history.True friends, this duo often blurred the lines between friendship, romance and collaboration. Their connection spurred a prolific period of creation, conjuring and self-discovery for both artists.
3. Patty & Selma Bouvier
Patty and Selma’s devotion for one another is second to none. Not even Selma’s love for her pet iguana Jub-Jub nor their mutual hatred of Homer can trump their connection.Whether it be shaving their legs, smoking a pack of smooth Laramies or ensnaring a future husband, this dynamic duo is a force to be reckoned with.
4. Kath & Kel
They may not be the show's namesake, but I would argue that this iconic duo are the true stars of 'Kath & Kim'. These two navigate the murky waters of middle age with a wisdom and grace like no other. And in baggy, pastel sportswear no less.
5. Brooke Logan and Ridge Forrester
For 20 years this on again/ off again couple have been the enduring through line of 'Bold And The Beautiful’s ever-waning plot.I have been watching this soap since childhood and there’s a chance that these two shaped my understanding of love and relationships, which is troubling.
Murder plots, borderline-incestuous adultery, break-up and joyous reunion, this couple has survived everything, even a Ridge re-cast.
