5 Awkward Artist Interviews With These New South Whales

These New South Whales
National Arts and Comedy Editor. Based in Melbourne.
Pop culture, pop music and gaming are three of Jesse’s biggest passions. Lady Gaga, Real Housewives and The Sims can almost sum him up – but he also adores a night at the cinema or a trip to the theatre.

As part of Melbourne Web Fest, These New South Whales have taken on the Australian punk music world, and they've documented every move in a self-titled web series.

The show is a fresh take on the band members, full of cringe-worthy comedy and heart. In the spirit of the Internet, frontman Jamie Timony took some time to talk about his top five awkward musician interviews.

1. BOB DYLAN

In this snippet from 1965, Bob Dylan refuses to co-operate with his interviewer, accusing Time Magazine of being incapable of printing the truth.

2. LOU REED

Lou Reed is particularly evasive in this interview, giving clipped and cryptic responses to almost every question.

3. DAVID BOWIE

I hate Russell Hardy in this interview. He is a complete bully. Bowie is obviously fuming but handles himself well.

4. MADONNA

This interview with MTV is railroaded by Courtney Love. Incredibly uncomfortable. Love acts as though she doesn't know exactly what she's doing.

5. JOHNNY ROTTEN

This is a fairly recent interview with Johnny Rotten which goes awry when Carrie Bickmore interrupts him. He ends up looking like a fair washed up dick.
