4 Of The Coolest Café Fitouts In Brisbane

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

In recent years, we’ve seen Brisbane take its dining scene up a notch to establish itself as an exciting culinary hub capable of rivalling the offerings of Sydney and Melbourne.

But as any foodie will tell you, the ambience of an eating space is just as important as its menu. That’s why more and more cafes these days are investing in quality, custom fitouts to complement their food and create an Instagram-friendly appearance. We asked custom shopfitters, Tu Projects, for their top 4 cafes around Bris Vegas for cool interiors, interesting décor and of course, delicious food – get your phones out and filters ready!

1. Jak & Hill, Spring Hill

Located beneath the trendy Punthill apartments in the inner-city suburb of Spring Hill, Jak & Hill serves delightfully unfussy meals in a semi-industrial space designed by Brisbane shopfitters Tu Projects. Exposed brickwork, recycled timbers, plywood boxes and a neutral colour palette make this rustic space perfect for both weekend brunch and after-work drinks – no wonder it’s a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike!

2. The Jam Pantry, Greenslopes

If you’re keen for breakfast in a spot that feels like your Grandma’s kitchen, then south side favourite the Jam Pantry should be at the top of your breakfast bucket list. This cute café’s vintage-inspired interiors lend themselves to a hearty, seasonal menu complemented by a range of home-made jams, relishes, chutneys and pickles (often made using ingredients from their neighbours’ gardens!).

3. French Twist, Paddington

French Twist first rose to prominence thanks to its spectacular smoothies and milkshakes served in mason jars, and has remained a key feature on the Brisbane brunch scene. While French Twist boasts a number of locations around the city, we think that The Barracks (arguably) is the best space thanks to its ground-floor position in the beautiful heritage-listed building. French Twist’s signature vintage furniture, distressed wallpaper and a checkerboard floor creates a unique space reminiscent of a French country chateau that’s only made better by the café’s signature pastries and breads.

4. Bunker Coffee, Milton

Named by Beanhunter as one of the top 10 cafes in Australia, Bunker Coffee is undeniably one of the best – and most unique – coffee shops in Brisbane. This café is located on Railway Terrace in a converted World War II air raid shelter that’s covered entirely in lush greenery – blink, and you’ll miss it! The interior is also covered with vines and lit by exposed lightbulbs, creating a cool vibe that has seen it become one of the most popular coffee spots in the city.

With so many amazing options at our fingertips, how are we meant to choose just one for our Sunday brunch?
