After arriving on time to the Young Summer 2015 fashion show at Oh Hello last night (9 April), only to wait in line for 25 minutes before they opened the doors, then waiting inside for the runway show to begin for another hour-and-a-half, needless to say, at this stage I was not a happy chappie.
Despite the night’s delays, the collections showcased made the long night a little more bearable. Young Summer 2015 is Brisbane’s newest fashion show, which aims to promote young and upcoming local designers. Young Summer featured a variety of both men and women’s clothing and accessories with headlining collection by ‘Sabo Skirt’.
‘Black Jacket Suiting’ opened the night with a collection of well-tailored suits that definitely stood out overall in the men’s section of the night. ‘Castle Adrift’ were another men’s label that turned heads with it’s shirts in bright, bold and crazy prints – I particularly liked the psychedelic tie-dyed shirt. Other menswear labels included ‘Suit Society’, ‘Cash Berry’, ‘Yuppie Palace’, ‘Chapel & Charles’ and ‘The Wanderers Co.’, which also featured a few female garments.

Turning heads in the women’s wear section of the night was definitely ‘Cleopatra Jackson’ with her delicate, resort luxe designs and soft, feminine fabrics and lace. Others labels to note include ‘Hunting Faith the Label’ and ‘Wilde Willow’ which both graced the runway with their garments. ‘Fabled and True’ had a handful of well-fitted and well-designed garments made from fabrics that resembled my nan’s country kitchen curtains and tablecloths.
Throughout the parade ‘Eager & Co.’ showcased their handmade men’s footwear and female accessory labels: ‘Da-sh & Dol’, ‘Argentopuro’ and ‘Lazurah’ complimented an array of outfits as well. Despite being the most well known label at the parade, ‘Sabo Skirt’s’ collection left much to be desired. It was definitely a low note to end on with the preceding labels being much more impressive.

The event itself was difficult to endure with the extremely loud, monotonous music and long delays. The venue was also very packed-in making it hard to get around and meant having a 20-minute wait at the bar. The quality on show on the runway, however, definitely made the night worthwhile.
