Whether you prefer sparkling floor-length gowns, or high-tech identity-shielding bodysuits with in-built weapons, everyone loves a costume.
London's Victoria and Albert Museum has loaned their incredible display of cinema garb to Melbourne for Hollywood Costume.
The exhibition, on now until August 18 at the Australian Centre for Moving Image, showcases the most memorable outfits of film, from Scarlett O'Hara's green gown from Gone with the Wind (1939) to Batman's futuristic suit from The Dark Knight Rises (2012).
Throw in splashes of Titanic, The Wizard of Oz, and Casino Royale, and it's easy to see why costume design is so integral to a film's creation.
The display is curated by costume designer Deborah Nadoolman Landis (Coming to America, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Thriller), whose book Hollywood Costume was published in December 2012, and sheds light on the creative process of the designers who help to shape some of our favourite on-screen players.
