Lora Zombie & Black Milk Are Drop Dead Gorgeous

Lora Zombie & Black Milk
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

An epic exploration of creative, bold and bright colours is the style that Black Milk – teamed with epic grunge street artist Lora Zombie – has created with their 11 piece collection.

Creative director of Black Milk, Palmina Martin, explains how the collection came about. “Lora Zombie was initially a customer of the brand and once we found her we realised what a perfect fit she would be. She loved the clothes and we love everything about her artwork, we contacted her and we went from there.”

Although this not the first collaboration Black Milk has done, it is the first full collection they have created with an artist. Palmina says the decision to feature Lora was pretty simple. “We wanted to do a mini collection instead of just a little bit here and there. We wanted this collection to stand on its own. Having an 11 piece collection allowed us to use more artwork. Some artworks fit better on, say, a crop top, and we wanted people to have more options.”

loraz2“It’s really exciting to have a collection that is a perfect representation of our brand and Lora’s artistic style.”

As both have a similar fun, colour packed and bold aesthetic, Palmina says the collaboration was one filled with ease and enjoyment. “It was a great collaboration! Lora has such amazing artwork and style; she was so willing to work with us so we teamed up and made suggestions to each other about which artworks to include. It just happened really naturally and easily, Lora has awesome art to play with, which meant we just had to see what would work in terms of fitting the body. We would put in our input, but we didn’t give her a brief. She just created her amazing art.”

loraz4“The whole process was enjoyable. Working with Lora was so easy and inspiring, but for me the most enjoyable part of the collaboration was seeing the samples for the first time. The office was a bit crazy that day. The clothes just looked great! They were so brightly coloured and different... It was so exciting to see what we had been working on coming together in such a crazy, bright, fun way.”

Palmina explains there was only aspect that was somewhat challenging during the process. “Lora is great, the collaboration was easy and seamless. The only slightly challenging aspect was making sure the artworks would look great on the clothes. We work with shapes and form, while Lora works on flat surfaces, translating some of the artwork to the clothing was a little difficult but we worked around it and achieved a great collection.”

loraz3When asked about possible future collections with Lora, Palmina’s response was extremely positive. “Yes! I’d love to again it would be amazing to work with her again on another collection. Her art is always changing as see creates more pieces so it would be very easy to pick a few more artworks and create another collection. It really depends on the customer response though. If everything went well and the customers love it, I would love to think about doing another collection with Lora this time next year.”
