It's always a joy to see someone escape The Matrix, or rather, shrug off the overbearing burden of the corporate world and follow their dreams.
This is exactly what East-Coast TAFE graduate Jocelyn Horner has done with her new hand-crafted fashion label Indi Stone. The creative love-child of a talented, self-motivated girl who upon completing her advanced diploma won a scholarship from the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival, securing her a spot in October's annual runway show, and a six-month mentorship with ethical and sustainable local fashion label Sinerji.
The style of her first collection is Boho Luxe and Horner will be putting everything together in her home studio in Warana, with all-natural materials being sourced from local stores on the Sunshine Coast. The label also goes as far as to explain the type of girl Indie Stone represents: “a free spirit with the ocean in her soul, she's unique in her own way and expresses herself through the clothes she wears!”
The fresh eyes and passion that reached breaking point, causing her to leave Brisbane two years ago, are undoubtedly Horner's most powerful weapons and will likely see her clothing branch out and permeate the waiting wardrobes of the country, despite its current beachy styling.
Her opportunity with the internationally recognised show in October will give her work a much larger audience, her excitement evident: “It's a great opportunity for me to gain exposure for my label and will be an awesome learning experience being new to the industry.”
All Indi Stone garments are made to order, with higher levels of production and market appearances coming soon.
