Trendsetters and masters of style have the chance to flaunt their frills at the Ekka's first ever Fashions On The Field competition this year.
Presented by Dendy Cinemas, the competition is open to people over 18 years and asks entrants to don their most stylish formal spring season race wear. The prize pool is more than $20,000, and there are multiple awards to be won.
The four categories in the competition are: Best Female Ensemble (18-40 years); Best Female Ensemble (over 40 years); Best Male Ensemble and Best Headwear (male or female).
The judging panel includes Joli Boutique's Lauren Holland, who has more than $100,000 worth of fashions on the field prizes to her name including two Queensland state titles. Brisbane's own king of fabric Ewan Gardam, who has been in the industry for four decades, joins Lauren and two other judges for the style showdown.
Each category winner will receive a price valued at more than $5,000, which includes a Dendy Bronze Card, Fitness First Membership, KX Pilates voucher and Napoleon Chermside makeover lesson.
The Ekka has been a solid part of Queensland history since the first even in 1876. Originally called The Inter-Colonial Exhibition of 1876, it proved to be a great success. It attracted 17,000 people on open day: just 3,000 short of the entire population of Brisbane at the time. In 1921, the event was granted a higher status by His Majesty King George V, giving it the title of a "royal" event. Since then, it continues to be Queensland's most anticipated yearly event.
Entries for the Ekka's Fashions On The Field close on 29 July.
