A Brisbane collective of ethical fashion and accessory labels united over the weekend for a two-day pop-up shopping event at Lightspace, Fortitude Valley, in alignment with Fashion Revolution Day 2015.
On 24 April 2013, 1,133 garment workers died and 2,500 people were injured in the Rana Plaza collapse in Dhaka, Bangladesh. They were killed while working for well-known fashion labels in one of the many ‘accidents’ that plague the garment industry. Fashion Revolution Day aims to bring everyone in the fashion value chain together and help to raise awareness of the true cost of fashion, show the world that change is possible, and celebrate all those involved in creating a more sustainable future.

Orange Oranges
Brisbane got involved by holding a fashion event including labels such as Alice Nightingale, Fourzero, Zurii, Orange Oranges, The Great Beyond and Cork Leather. The event featured Australian-made, fair-trade, sweatshop free and ethical brands with everything from sleepwear by The Goodnight Society, yoga wear by Fire And Shine, underwear by Nico, baby wear by Mosov and jewellery by Ruby Olive.

Ruby Olive
Each label was there promoting their products but also promoting various charities and campaigns in alignment with the ideals of Fashion Revolution Day. Each designer had a special story to tell about the creation and founding of their label.

With a glass of champagne in one hand and a goodie bag in the other, it wasn’t just the feast of feel-good-fashion on display that amazed, but also the idea that this event brought together organisations and people that would normally be in competition outside of Fashion Revolution Day.
