There is something about the combination of art, music, food, alcohol, and fashion, on and off the runway that reminds you what it is to be human.
CAGED, the show staged by the Coveted Events team on Thursday 22nd August, allowed the cells to witness something a little more inspiring than the prisoners of old would have enjoyed. Guests were welcomed into Fremantle Prison with a tattoo art exhibition, featuring local and international artists, soundtracked by Fremantle’s very own Lucy Peach.
A backstage peek gave an insight into the creative process involved in allowing the models to highlight what is great about WA fashion, watched over by walls that have seen it all. The arrival of the crowd changed the atmosphere of the prison and time was allowed to enjoy the artwork, a few drinks and of course a walk down the cells towards the final manifestation of the caged catwalk.
The iconic Fremantle Prison framed designer Natalie Donovan’s label W i l d H o r s e s perfectly as the catwalk began with edgy bold prints, dark hues and rocker edge, with models demonstrating that element of sass required by the venue.
The Spring/Summer collection by Seth Cray really grew on me over the evening, and by the end of the night I was scheming about how I could possibly get that boyfriend of mine into some of those cute knitwear shorts asap!
And the evening finished with finesse as the metallic, cool calm and collected joys of designer Sophia Jalla and her label, a WA favourite, Rosie & Broken, proved that she has a formula that is definitely working and must continue to be appreciated on the WA scene.
