Men (and women) of the Sunshine Coast are grooming their facial hair for their second annual Beard And Moustache Competition in June.
After a successful first year, The Bearded Men Of The Sunshine Coast are expecting over a hundred entrants to participate this time around, and will draw an even larger crowd than the last.
With a year's worth of growth, grooming and TLC, competitor's will be judged on:
- the length
- thickness
- colour and
- shine
of their facial hair within one of six categories:
- Moustache,
- Partial Beard,
- 10cm Full Beard Natural,
- Under 20cm Full Beard Natural,
- Over 20cm Full Beard Natural
- and this year's new category Whiskerina.
A category for women, Whiskerina will be for those challenged in the facial hair department who will be able to design and model their own unique faux facial hair.
Competitor's will have to pay a small entry fee, with all proceeds going to non-profit organisation 'Rosie's: Friends On The Street'. A non-preaching, and non-discriminatory charity, 'Rosie's' provide support and material aid in to those in the community who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the form of food parcels, clothing, bedding, household items, vouchers, referrals, and friendship.
There's over $1000 worth of prizes up for grabs from local businesses including Taps Mooloolaba, All Inn Brewing Company, Sailor Jerry, 4 Pines Brewing Company, Scoop Deluxe Beard Balm, The Barbers Shed, Dragon Fly Tattoo, The Bearded Chap, 80 Beards, Knock Out Heels. And the Sunny Coast's own Transvaal Diamond Syndicate will provide entertainment for the night with their foot-stomping bearded blues.

President of The Bearded Men Of The S.C. recommends that if entrants are serious about their face hair, start preparing for the competition now. “Entrants need to leave plenty of time for brushing, grooming and trimming of their facial hair, maximum shine time is key.” While competitors may join in the competition on the day, pre-registration online is advised as all categories will be capped at 20 entrants.
The Bearded Men Of The Sunshine Coast's second annual Beard And Moustache Competition will be held at Taps Mooloolaba on 6 June.
