Seventeen-year-old fashion guru and media pioneer Tavi Gevinson is on her way to Australia.
Gevinson, who lives in Chicago, will be a keynote speaker at a Sydney Opera House event and the Melbourne Writers' Festival. She'll also conduct a special session in Melbourne for the under-20 crowd.
Gevinson has been kind of a big deal since she was just 11, when her fashion blog, Style Rookie, became a worldwide phenomenon. At just 15, she made Forbes' '30 Under 30' list of rising stars in the media. In 2011, she launched Rookie, an online magazine for, about and by teenage girls and young women (the mag has also featured male guest contributors like Paul Rudd, Thom Yorke, Jon Hamm and Judd Apatow).
Rookie is updated five days a week, three times a day, with further additions on weekends. Gevinson serves as editor-in-chief, but is looking to scale back her involvement in the long term as she prepares to finish high school and embark on a gap year before college.
Gevinson will be in conversation at the Sydney Opera House for Ideas At The House on Sunday August 18 and at the Melbourne Writers' Festival on Friday August 23. She'll take part in a special Melbourne Writers' Festival event, Rookie Day (an afternoon of inspiration for young women), on Saturday August 24.
