5 Must-See Designers At Finders Keepers

Finders Keepers Markets
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Curated independent art, fashion and design stalls, The Finders Keepers Markets are a bi-annual event that showcase the work of emerging designers and artists from around Australia and even New Zealand.

Launched in 2008 at Carriageworks in Sydney, The Finders Keepers moved interstate to Brisbane in 2009 and in 2010 touched down in Melbourne. With a passion for bringing independent design to the forefront and encouraging the Australian emerging art and design scene, Finders Keepers have created markets that maintain a grass roots level and have work of high standards in both quality and innovative design.

The final Brisbane event for 2015 takes place in November, and these are just 5 of the best you can see over the weekend:

Alice Nightingale

Alice Nightingale

A long-time fashion favourite of the markets, Alice Nightingale will be showcasing her latest Spring range of watercolour ladies. Featuring vintage-inspired swimwear (some even include her uber-popular avocado print), light summer blouses and bright dresses, this not-to-be-missed collection has been created with prints all exclusively designed by Alice, all printed on 100 per cent cotton using water-based and eco-friendly inks.

With garment names like 'Miss Daintree' and 'Miss Tangalooma', this Brisbane-babe is one to watch out for!

Susan Simonini Ceramic

Susan Simonini Ceramics

Local ceramicist Susan Simonini will be bringing her decorative stoneware to the markets again this season. Featuring a range of plates to planters, these hand-built vessels are a tactile joy. With hand-made comes the beauty of imperfections, making each piece a true one-of-a-kind; especially in the traditional techniques that Susan employs to create her gorgeous wares.

Keep an eye out for this boutique stationery range. Created by a Brisbane-based husband and wife team, Jess and Rick, (with their two Samoyeds Riley and Ebony), their current collection celebrates the beauty of everyday items. Proudly printed in Australia and assembled by hand in their studio, you’re sure to cross off your gift card lists at this lovely stall.

Kippy Skateboards

Kippy Skateboards

Hailing from the Gold Coast, Kippy Skateboards will be making their debut at this season’s Brisbane Finders Keepers. Inspired by 'sweet simple pleasures like sunsets and sunrises', these skateboards have just the right amount of retro to suit skaters of all ages. Featuring hand-crafted details and a big dose of surf culture influence, these decks make a fabulous gift for the beachy and hard-to-buy-for people in your life.

fifteenthirtyeight

After a disappointing search for the perfect coffee table among a sea of mass-produced replicas, this dynamic duo was inspired to start creating their own stuff. With a range of modern homewares with a splash of design know-how and a little mid-century influence, this couple are smashing goals with their new Brisbane-based business.

Of course while these are 5 local heroes to look out for, there’s so much more on offer at our Brisbane markets this season.

The Finders Keepers Markets will be held at The Old Museum 7 & 8 November. The Sydney market will take place at Australian Technology Park Exhibition Hall 11-13 December.
