On the back of a pumping Fringe World season (which included Rhys Nicholson, this year’s Best Comedy Award WA winner Umar Azad and a drop-in from old mate Rove), Perth’s longest running comedy club continues with stacked monthly line-ups of today’s and tomorrow’s comedy stars.
The Laugh Resort heroes the best from the West and beyond, from seasoned professionals to the freshest emerging talent which in future you will be chuffed to say you saw before they were famous.
17 April is festival-strong, with much-loved WA musical comedian Zack Adams (Just For Laughs Comedy Award winner Shane Adamczak’s alter-ego) making a return to stand-up at the Club where he debuted over a decade ago, before touring Canada where he’s become a Fringe festival favourite.
“Returning to where I did countless gigs in Zack’s early years… Besides the physical difference of the Club relocating, I’m excited for how it’ll feel the same and different,” Zack says.
“It’s been a weird experience revisiting the material ‘cause so much has changed – I’ve changed, the world has changed – but I reckon it’ll be like hanging out with an old friend with new things to laugh about. And a guitar.”
Joining Zack are homegrown heavyweights previewing their upcoming local festival shows: doughnut-loving Canadian Perthling Tor Snyder, 2018 WA Comedian of the Year Colin Ebsworth, and Fringe World 2019 Weekly Award-winner Nicola Macri.
15 May stars more local festival guests including “horse husband” Craig Quartermaine ('Tonightly') and '6056'’s Cameron McLaren with supporting acts to be announced.
What’s guaranteed is, being-not-for-profit, all proceeds go to the acts you see on stage, meaning an investment in the future of Australian comedy that’ll earn you massive feel-good factor as well as big lols.
“Yes, there’ll be brand new stuff, but you’ll also get some tried and tested favourites,” Zack says.
