Comedian Kat Davidson has trawled through US television to find the five female characters she wishes she could be.
1. Veronica Mars
Gutsy teen detective played by Kristen Bell who uses her wily ways to solve crime as a private detective, while having perfect hair and attracting the town bad boy, Logan Echolls, who’s ludicrously hot and brooding. The script has some cracking dialogue, and her combination of sass and cute is truly admirable.
2. Lorelai Gilmore
The best ever mother/ daughter relationship on TV is Lorelai and Rory Gilmore in ‘The Gilmore Girls’. My husband and I love them so much, we called our daughter Lorelei, and address her as Rory. How the actors managed to learn the rapid-fire dialogue and convey emotion while juggling such a carefully crafted and brilliantly written script is a modern miracle. If my Rory and I have anything like the relationship these ladies have, I will be a very happy camper.
3. Buffy Summers
No list of kick-ass women is complete without Buffy. Leader of the Scooby Gang, wrecker of havoc on vampire kind, and heroine of every geeky girl in the Whedonverse. No one roundhouse kicks like Buffy, except maybe Chuck Norris.
4. Mackenzie McHale
From the mindblowing Aaron Sorkin series ‘The Newsroom’, she makes me want to be a proper journalist – firing facts and opinions about important things while making decisions and being irresistible to Jeff Daniels. The theme song alone makes me want to put on a suit and march about with a clipboard yelling out things like “White House propaganda” and “tell the story, Will, just tell the story!”
5. Liz Lemon
Just the right amount of brilliant, broken and bossy. She’s the neurotic mess all of us are at 2am in the morning brought into the daylight by the best female writer of our time. Liz Lemon is the star of the show partly by virtue of Tina Fey’s ability to make everyone around her take the time to shine, which is very very cool.
